A friend and I have started a new page that is along the lines of this one, it's called Mad World and we are calling ourselves the Mad World Riders. We will be riding in Tuttle Creek, KS April 6th.

Longboard App. for iPhone

I got this new app called Skatebook. It saves your skate spots and shows you other peoples. It also tracks your max mph, average mph, and distance you go while riding. It's legit, and basically the only app I could find like it. 

If you have an android phone they make one for that too, it's called TYR or something like that. Not 100% sure, but it's just as cool (actually better) than the one I use.

My brother got the Sector 9 board and my sister got the Madrid board. Both ride really well.

Here the kids are out on a ride. They are slowly but surely starting to get better! So proud of them! 

Cheap Board?

We needed a nice board to practice with that wasn't super expensive so we headed to our local Walmart... yes, Walmart! And it's actually a good board too. It's Dark Star brand, only $80 and it has nice trucks and wheels. If you're just looking to start out with something nice and easy to ride as well as not too spendy, you should def go check one of these out!

Just skating along doing my thing... and then I manage to wipe out at the end. Not very good video quality, but oh well. 

Bear Video Day

We are shooting a longboarding video about animals (thus the animal hats). We spent the day in the woods riding on the trails, making friends with the wild life, and ending the day by wiping out and being extremely tired. The video is still in progress, but here are a few pics from shooting day 1. 

Found a nice place to hang our bags so they wouldn't get pokeys on them.

Skate Pack

If you read my other blog, then you may remember the "Party Pack." Well apparently I have an obsession with backpacks or something, but this is our skate pack. I'll later take pictures of everything we keep in it, but for now I'll just list what we call our "essentials."

Failing How To Slide...

DYI Sliding Gloves

Attempt #1 

My friend and I went out and picked out the gloves we wanted to use for the sliding gloves. She chose a pair of biking gloves that had added padding in the palms and thumb area (I recommend this). Next, she took a piece of PVC pipe and cut it into 4 pieces (2 for her and 2 for me) to place in the center of the glove (thats the part that will we sliding on the ground). After that, she sanded down the sharp edges, spray painted them black (to match the gloves), and then covered them in wax. After that came the hard part, gluing the PVC to the gloves. We took a mens deoderant and put it inside the glove to fill it out so that the PVC would be kept in the right place. Next we used massive amounts of Gorilla glue and whatever other adhesives we could find around the house, tied the PVC tight to the gloves and let it dry.

The gloves worked really well, but only for a few uses before the PVC came loose from the gloves. 

Attempt #2

These are my gloves that I made the exact same way and same day as my friend did above. The only thing I did different was I bought different gloves and added finger pieces to them for extra sliding. To do this, I took small round magnets that I had and melted plastic from a 2-liter bottle around them. After that I used fabric adhesive to glue them on and then hot glues them after that. On my PVC part, I used even MORE Gorilla glue than my friend and used a whole bunch of hot glue to cover the rest. The gloves may not look great, but they work amazing and have lasted me over a month.

Attempt #3

Our third attempt went about as well as out first. We think it was because we bought gloves that fit a little snug so the tension is what kept pulling the PVC off of the glove. To fix this, my friend added more Gorilla glue and a whole bunch of hot glue... then she added her own special touch...

Attempt #4

Duct tape! It really does do wonders! She put it on strip by strip and then used a blow dryer on it to melt the sticky side of the tape more into the gloves. It's worked like a charm ever since! 

The Non-Riders

Yes, these are real boards! They are my babies (very difficult to ride). I am planning on making or buying a board rack for them, or hanging them on my wall. Haven't quite decided yet. I'd eventually like to find more weird shaped/special edition ones and start a collection! 

The Boards

These are my baby's. I ride the Sector 9 board. The orange wheel's were a Sector 9 brand and they were 72's. Really good for speed and rolling over just about anything, but my friend and I are wanting to learn to slide so I switched to the blue ones that you can see in the top photo. They are a little smaller and not quite as soft but still a great ride.

The second board with the fish on it is a Layback Longboard (I put it's wheel's on my board) and set's up a little bit higher than my Sector 9. It's a great board for riding as well. We put some Orangatang wheels on it that were harder to make it easier for us while learning to slide. 

Long Board the Park

This day was all about filming and catching some speed. We were trying out different techniques with the camera and different angles. We were just skating around the local park by my house that has some nice hills to ride on. One I may have even reached 35 mph on. We were also trying out our new sliding gloves we made. The song is No Handlebars by Flobots.

Long Board the River Walk

This day, we were really just wanting to go out for a chill day and some nice easy riding. We decided to wear mustaches. All in all it was a super fun day of pretty good riding. You can tell we are slowly getting better at riding.
